Indeed going back to 5.14.21-150500.55.19.1  resolved my issue. larryr asked me
to file a bug, so here it is....

It is not Virtualbox - it is the 5.14.21-150500.55.22.1 kernel is defective on
USB devices.
go back to supported 5.14.21-150500.55.19.1 kernel,
