I've got it working but would be very nice if someone could comment if that is the "right" solution: [Service] Type=forking PIDFile=/var/run/pure-ftpd.pid ExecStart=/usr/sbin/pure-config.pl /etc/pure-ftpd/pure-ftpd.conf --daemonize So I added Type=forking and --daemonize to the command
