Thank you very much for the hints so far! Well, yes, I have to admit that I ignored the recommendation. In fact, though using SuSE Linux for almost 25 years now, it is the first time that I even get aware of the concept that packages recommend other packages. It is not even mentioned in the rpm man page! Of course it can be subject to discussion whether a "soft" recommendation is enough or if a "hard" requirement is better, and assumed that the man command always belongs to a basic installation, it impedes the package split. On the other hand, do not users who have installed their system properly with all package dependencies resolved, simply expect that commands also work properly without getting a cryptic error message? I think it just overcharges 90% of the common users also taking care of package recommendations.
