Another solution is to change the key combination to something that does not conflict with normal editing. For example, I misunderstood Carlos's post on opensuse-factory today that one needs to first press and release right-shift and then to press and release right-shift + right-control. I liked this as the key sequence and combination is unlikely to be pressed accidentally. The sequence "right-shift, right-shift + right-control" has 3 more advantages: * It is easy to learn if one already knows the old combination. * It is still fairly easy for new users. * The new sequence will also work on old systems as the first key press is simply ignored on old systems. This idea should ideally be combined with the other idea to display an explanation and configuration dialogue.
