(In reply to Wolfgang Bauer from comment #1) Using top via slogin/ssh shows, that the process /usr/bin/plasmashell --shut-up causes CPU load on one CPU between 89% and 99% together with the X server used by the plasmashell shows an increased CPU load on an other CPU. From my point of view this could be a polling loop used by the plasmashell process. To reproduce this the user has to have to lock his screen within KDE plasmashell. And the account of the user is not an fresh KDE but an older This does not happen with other session managers from other users. Beside this the increasing noise of the fans is caused by the increasing CPU temperature due to the higher load. In normal case this happen only if I compile the kernel or a new image of for the Fritz!Box here. Otherwise the fans extremly silent that is you do not notice that the system is up and running ... only if plasmashell cause load then you can hear that the system is busy. For debugging I could use strace or set ulimit for core file size and send SIGSEGV to the plasmashell to trigger a core dump ... but for a core dump I have to talk with the user which is my wife as this requires to safe the firefox session.
