I may be worth to test other Kernel versions too, like 3.18.3 (from
Kernel_stable repository) or latest 3.12.x kernel (from www.kernel.org).

I never had any issues with suspend-to-ram and suspend-to-disk with non-UEFI
booting and Kernel 3.12.x on my PC. Problems started with UEFI and with Kernels
>= 3.13.
