The .pc bump is in sync with also the GI bindings and is there to indicate a API change. As you've seen yourself: simply 'detecting' the new .pc file is not always enough. Some code changes might as well be in order. As a result: nothing wrong done in Vte: the .pc changed version and the code needs to be updated accordingly. => no GNOME bug, but a QEmu bug.
