slow motion (4x) comparison GNOME 3.32 Ubuntu 19.04 <-> openSUSE TW 2019-05-09

Here's an update on the direct comparison video I posted earlier. Note that
screen captures at 30fps are not useful to see actual performance, one needs at
least 60fps external capture. 120fps starts to be nice as the screens are 60Hz
so there is some extra (temporal) room.

What remains:
- Some core problem remains on SUSE with GNOME 3.32, even with matching
energy_performance_preference set to balance_performance. The animations are
choppy, on the comparison distro they are also visibly (non slow motion) silky
smooth most of the time (GNOME still has some random choppiness, seen also at
the end of the video).

What is improved - a lot!:
- The performance is now usable with default kernel parameters and
hyper-threading enabled
- Lag from key press to animation seems better than before
- GNOME 3.32 general optimizations probably make balance_power to be ok too
(not as much difference this time as before)

Other notes:

I also tested Wayland which is the default on SUSE:
- Performance problem seems roughly similar there
- Wayland would seem to benefit a bit more from balance_performance (compared
to balance_power), making it faster than X.Org
- Key press lag is higher on Wayland regardless of the Overview key used

Finally testing related note:
- For comparing while pressing keys on both machines at the same time I noted
it's useful to bind and use non-Super key to Overview on both machines, since
the Super key adds extra delay (probably since it waits for another key)
