I can confirm this still occurs daily on 42.3. It seems to occur more
frequently when the number of windows and desktops in use increase. I generally
have apps running on 3-desktops and is triggered, as far as I can tell, on a
window focus change after some random number of changes has occurred. (In fact
I just triggered it minimizing konsole and saved the backtrace). The kde sound
them plays fine on on desktop switches, minimize, restore, etc.. until the
crash occurs, then the system sounds are gone (until you restart kde)

There are continual logs to xsession-erros, e.g.
