- explicitly include rsyslog in the base pattern to make sure
  logging goes to /var/log/messages as documented (bsc#1094841).

So, yes, rsyslog is still the defacto default - mainly for matching the doc
which, IIRC, was never rewritten for users not to look for /var/log/messages
