salt-bash-completion creates files like /some/where/~/.cache/salt-comp-cache_functions The actual directory probably depends on the working directory where you first tried salt <tab><tab> This is probably caused by /etc/bash_completion.d/salt, especially the line local _salt_cache_functions=${SALT_COMP_CACHE_FUNCTIONS:='~/.cache/salt-comp-cache_functions'} Please expand the ~ to the real home directory.
