Turns out the change is already present upstream, commit
cf4d5989383acc4ed1b7eebadde9f380f2129766 done by James Cloos in response to
your freedesktop bug.

The change will get into OpenSUSE with new version of libX11. Until then, the
best solution is for you to add following two lines into ".XCompose" in your
home directory:
