This is a pretty non-standard stuff.

The upstream uses translations included into the desktop files.

Many years ago, SUSE wanted to be able to provide post-release translation
updates. As part of this effort, we patched GNOME (and maybe more software) to
search for translations in the textdomain "desktop_translations".

And there you are:
msgunfmt /usr/share/locale/{your language}/LC_MESSAGES/desktop_translations.mo
| grep -A1 "Install the system from online repositories"

I think, that this feature is pretty confusing nowadays. And we are providing
latest GNOME with each release, so we stopped to provide post-release updates
of translation.


I think we should slowly obsolete this.

But it has a problem. desktop-translations duplicates upstream translation
effort, but only 2 translations or so per package. So it would be very
complicated to upstream all of our unique translations.

If you want to create standard desktop file, then intltool can merge
translations back to the desktop file.
