The check was primarily targeting SLE12/15 where the impact of these symlinks was non negligible. But we try to avoid carrying such workaround in TW especially since the problem (both in udev and in the installer) was fixed and the number of affected users was nul. To be sure, could you try the latest Leap 15.6 kernel without Nvidia, too? Since the xrandr output shows that 3840x2160 as the preferred mode (with '+'), it might be not the driver who decided to choose the different resolution.
