But nothing actually happens.
I am only using the Intel graphics driver. Because I have been trying a lot of
settings, X didn't start anymore. Removing the nvidia drivers (nvidia/nouveau)
solved it.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to change the screen resolution with Fn key combination
2. Try to use the brightness slider
3. Try to use xbacklight
Actual Results:
The Brightness does not change in any way.
Expected Results:
A gradual change in screen brightness should be the result of using at least
xbacklight.
Screen brightness seems to be at 100% after boot.

Gecko/20101203 SUSE/3.6.13-0.2.1 Firefox/3.6.13
I have that problem with suspend and hibernation since a very beginning when I
installed openSUSE 11.3 x86_64 on my HP Compaq Presario V5245EU laptop with ram
upgraded to 2 GB and hard drive exchanged with WD 250 GB.
When I type in the console "s2ram -n" I get:
Machine unknown
This machine can be identified by:
sys_vendor = "Hewlett-Packard"
sys_product = "Presario V5000 (EW848EA#ABU) "
sys_version = "F.54"
bios_version = "F.54"
I have updated bios to the newest version a long time ago. I scanned my ram and
it passed the test. I have never had any problems with my hardware on windows
XP and suspend and hibernation works perfect on this operating system.
I can't say the same thing about Linux systems :( I have tested suspend feature
on openSUSE, Mandriva, Debian, Gentoo, Kubuntu, Fedora with LXDE, YlmfOS with
Gnome and I have problem with waking up the system from suspend on all of them.
Basically when I select suspend from menu or type the command in console laptop
goes to sleep fine but when I switch it back on I can hear the cd-rom waking
up, I see hdd led flashing for a wile but I can't actually hear it working,
screen and wi-fi led won't even blink and after few seconds I can hear the fan
on a high speed but that's it, keyboard doesn't respond either. I have to press
and hold the switch button for few seconds to restart the system.
With hibernation it is different. When I select hibernate from menu or type the
command in console it freezes immediately when I get hibernating splash screen
or the message "s2disk: Snapshotting system" on the screen. And again I have to
press and hold the switch button for few seconds to restart the system. I
haven't had that problem with hibernation in Mandriva 2010.1 Free x86_64.
My hdd partitions look like that:
/dev/sda1 - windows C - 10 GB
/dev/sda2 - swap - 2.5 GB
/dev/sda3 - windows D - 111 GB
/dev/sda5 - / - 10 GB
/dev/sda6 - /home - 98 GB
I was the same partition layout when I had Mandriva installed. I have the
system up to date (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop with KDE 4.4.4 release 3). I use
original open drivers for my graphics card and wi-fi. I tried to update
pm-utils and suspend packages to the newest and oldest versions (1.4.1 and
0.99) but it didn't help :(
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.

Summary: xrdp does not return a KDE4 desktop
Classification: openSUSE

Gecko/2009042700 SUSE/3.0.10-1.1.1 Firefox/3.0.10
Operating system: openSUSE 11.1 final with KDE4 installed as Desktop.
When running xrdp on openSUSE 11.1 as server and connecting by rdesktop from a
client machine running openSUSE 11.1 and selecting the Desktop KDE4 from the
xrdp login panel, the Xwindow that starts in the client is not a KDE4 window.
Instead it is a black screen with an inset bearing the following sentence: "KDE
seems to be already running on this display."
This is a duplicate of this bug reported earlier for openSUSE 11.2 alpha:
482399
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=482399
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.run this command from an openSUSE 11.1 client:
rdesktop -z servername
2. supply credentials for the default KDE4 desktop
3.
I'm reporting this duplicate of a bug from alpha 11.2 in case ppl think xrdp
works in openSUSE 11.1 serving a KDE4 desktop. It hasn't worked since 11.1 was
released, to the present.
There is a workaround until the bug is fixed:
Don't install xrdp RPM from /dreveman:/nomad/openSUSE_11.1
Don't install the RPMs for xorg-x11-server-dmx and xorg-x11-server-rdp from
repo-oss
Do install the xrdp RPM supplied from "update server", currently
xrdp-0.4.1-16.7.1
Do install the RPMs for xorg-x11-server-dmx and xorg-x11-server-rdp from
factory currently /dreveman:/nomad/openSUSE_11.1
This mixture works at today's date 22 May.
If you use different mixtures the result will fail in one way or another.

A while ago, I configured ntp with yast. The resulting ntp.conf had this line:
restrict
This resulted in those errors:
ntpd[21750]: line 34 column 1 syntax error, unexpected T_EOC, expecting
T_Default or T_Ipv4_flag or T_Ipv6_flag or T_String
ntpd[21750]: syntax error in /etc/ntp.conf line 34, column 1
I think the right line is:
restrict default ignore
