Hi all, I tried to install suse 9.2 but unfortunately when the installation started it didn't find my display braille. I have a baum displayand I tried with all modes of it but it doesn't work. Are there other parameters to specify at startup? Because I selected only installation at startup menu. How can I resolve this problem? Thanks in advance for reply Yours Sincerely Sauro Cesaretti

No. The Handy Tech mode should work, but other users have also the problem, that the braille display was not recognized :-(.
How can I resolve this problem?
Looks like that there is no solution to this problem at the moment, sorry :-(.

Hi, First of all, many thanks for information. I tried to work with handytech, but when the installation program recognize the display, I read only strange character on the display and I can't move the position of the display with keys as usual. Surely handytech is only the mode that work, but I don't understand the problem. I hope threre is a solution for this problem. I'm waiting for your reply. The problem is, that the installation programm thinks a braille device from Handy Tech is connected..., because the protocoll of Handy Tech is in use. So all data for Handy Tech devices are loaded, keymap e.g., and that results in the different keymapping on your display :-(. With the protocolls from Baum no recognition is possible..., so there is no chance to get the right keymaps for your braille display working during installation, sorry.
Surely handytech is only the mode that work, but I don't understand the problem.
As written above, the keys are maped different to the normal mapping for your device. But you should not see strange characters. Isn't it really possible to move arround the screen?
I hope threre is a solution for this problem.
The only solution I can sugest is to install the system with sighted help :-(. Or give AutoYaST a try. With AutoYaST you can do a automated installation, even without a braille display. -- Gruss / Regards, Christian Schoepplein <schoeppi@suse.de> SUSE LINUX GmbH - SUSE-Blinux Support WWW: http://www.blinux.suse.de Phone: Germany: 0180 / 500 36 12 (12ct/min) Austria: 0820 / 500 781 (14,5ct/min) Switzerland: 0848 / 860 847
hi, Many thanks again. Als you said, I can't move around the screen but I should read the contets of the screen. Are there some parameters that I can pass on the prompt of instalaton to force detect of the display? For now I only start the installation and setting the display braille in mode 2(handytech), nothing else. Thanks in advance and sorry. :-) Yours Sincerely Sauro Cesaretti ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christian Schoepplein" <schoeppi@suse.de> To: <suse-blinux@suse.com> Sent: Monday, May 23, 2005 11:19 AM Subject: Re: [suse-blinux] Info about suse 9.2

Yes. Try to move arround, maybe the keymapping allows that.
Are there some parameters that I can pass on the prompt of instalaton to force detect of the display?
No, unfortunatly not. -- Gruss / Regards, Christian Schoepplein <schoeppi@suse.de> SUSE LINUX GmbH - SUSE-Blinux Support WWW: http://www.blinux.suse.de Phone: Germany: 0180 / 500 36 12 (12ct/min) Austria: 0820 / 500 781 (14,5ct/min) Switzerland: 0848 / 860 847
Hi Christian When I have installed suse linux I must install brltty or have I had the support already installed? If the support is alread installed how can I use it? Another question, Is there one version of yast accessible for blind person? Because the interface is accessible but I cant't work with it because I don't see the position of cursor when I read the menu of yast. Thanks in advance for all information. Yours Sincerely Sauro Cesaretti
Hi Sauro! sorry for the late answer. On Mon, May 23, 2005 at 05:17:12PM +0200, Sauro Cesaretti wrote:

If you have installed SUSE with sighted help, you can install the screenreader from SUSE called sbl. Just type as root: yast -i sbl
If the support is alread installed how can I use it?
The main file of sbl is /etc/suse-blinux.conf There you have to specify your braille device and the port where it is connected. For example: brlname=vario40 brlport=/dev/ttyS0 This loads the driver for the Vario 40 device from Baum that is connect to the first serial port on your computer. Also you can specify a softwarespeech or an hardware synth, if you like to use speech. If you want to use a software speech, you can for example use mbrola. If you have finished installation and configuration, you can start the screenreader with rcsbl start the screenreader will be started automatickly with every system start. More docu about the installation of mbrola and configuration of sbl is stored in the directory /usr/share/doc/packages/sbl or /usr/share/doc/packages/suse-blinux
Another question, Is there one version of yast accessible for blind person? Because the interface is accessible but I cant't work with it because I don't see the position of cursor when I read the menu of yast.
Thats a known problem of yast and screenreaders. Unfortunatly we haven't found a good solution for now. Please write a message to SUSe about the feedback formular on the webpage. The developper of YaSt should know about this problem, maybe they change something. The more people with this problem write to them, the bigger is the chance, that something changes....
