[opensuse-autoinstall] error creating extended partition
Dear List (and Uwe),
I am using openSUSE 10.2. When I try to do an autoyast install I get an
error
dialog when the program tries to set the type of the extended partition:
Error: Failure occurred during the following action:
Setting type of partition /dev/sda3 to F
System error code was: -1012
And the install quits. It leaves the MBR corrupt with an invalid
partition type
so subsequent autoinstalls don't work (parted says it can't use the
format and
refuses to create partitions etc.)
Does anyone know a way around this?
Here is my partitioning XML which I got from 'clone this system for
autoyast'
on a successful manual install of the same machine. All I have changed
is the
<use>1,2,3 etc</use> to <use>all</use>:
<partitioning config:type="list">
<drive>
<device>/dev/md</device>
<partitions config:type="list">
<partition>
<filesystem config:type="symbol">ext3</filesystem>
<format config:type="boolean">true</format>
<mount>/</mount>

that's a little bit complex for me to reproduce in a few minutes but there is something I don't like in your profile. Maybe you can change that:
<drive> <device>/dev/sda</device> <partitions config:type="list">
add here:
<partition>

The partitions plan looked completely sane to me. It was going to delete the existing partitions 2 and 3, set type of 1 to 83, then create the new ones, including an extended partition at /dev/sd[ab]4 etc But it still failed trying to create the extended partition with the same error: Error: Failure occurred during the following action: Setting type of partition /dev/sda4 to F System error code was: -1012 I will try a minimal plan on one disk and see how that goes ... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

then it seems to be a bug in the yast2 storage component.
I will try a minimal plan on one disk and see how that goes ...
that might help -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert, Server Technologies Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nuernberg, Germany Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug now playing Diorama - Someone Dies -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

funny (and strange) thing, since yesterday I have that problem too. It's a bug in the yast2-storage library and it's fixed for SP1 and 10.3 now. -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert, Server Technologies Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug now playing Faderhead - O/H Scavenger -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

Thanks. What does SP1 refer to? SLE{S,D} only? Will I ever be able to do openSUSE 10.2 raid root installs with autoyast? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-autoinstall+help@opensuse.org

Hello,
Just to let you know, I do have the exact same problem when using LVM.
This one works:
<partitioning config:type="list">
<drive>
<partitions config:type="list">
<partition>
<filesystem config:type="symbol">reiser</filesystem>
<format config:type="boolean">true</format>
<mount>/boot</mount>
<size>256MB</size>
</partition>
<partition>
<filesystem config:type="symbol">swap</filesystem>
<format config:type="boolean">true</format>
<mount>swap</mount>
<size>4096MB</size>
</partition>
<partition>
<filesystem config:type="symbol">reiser</filesystem>
<format config:type="boolean">true</format>
<mount>/</mount>
<size>max</size>
</partition>
</partitions>
<use>all</use>
</drive>
</partitioning>
And this one does NOT work (with the same -1012 error):
<partitioning config:type="list">
<drive>
<partitions config:type="list">
<partition>
<filesystem config:type="symbol">reiser</filesystem>
<format config:type="boolean">true</format>
<mount>/boot</mount>
<size>256MB</size>
</partition>
<partition>
<filesystem config:type="symbol">swap</filesystem>
<format config:type="boolean">true</format>
<mount>swap</mount>
<size>4096MB</size>
</partition>
<partition>
