I've got a computer store guy who's doing an upgrade on my computer. He knows practically nothing about Linux but wants to learn. I've used Mandrake 8 & RHL 9, but only know a little, graphical basic stuff. Goal is dual-boot WinXP and SUSE 9.0 Personal, which I bought at retail in a box. Is there anything we/he need to know/do other than insert the disc after he installs XP and assume/hope YAST will prompt...? Should we check compatibility, do other stuff first, panic about something else??? I *really* appreciate your help. -M!
I am trying to do the same re dual boot with Win XP and SuSe Linux 8.2.
(retail box) then upgrade to 9.0 via internet. I know how to do dual boot
with Win XP & Win 98 for example, but not Win / Linux set-up. Firstly, I
know that Linux do not recongise Windows NTFS only FAT32. Should I use
FAT32 only not using any of Linux File System to do a dual boot system?
Should the set-up be Win XP installed on partition C: first then SuSe Linux
8.2 to be installed on partition D: (on the 80GB Hard Drive) using FAT32 for
example? Plus SuSe Linux 8.2 is a bit difficult so far to configure with
internet and sound card as Linux does not recongise the manufacturers re
Bellsouth (ISP) and M-Audio (External Sound Card).
Other suggestions on how to do this is appreciated. Anyone here who might
gives a hands and notes of solutions?
Best, Alex

We dual boot most of our PC's in our company. We first use a MS RIS server to install Win XP Pro on the firs 20 Gb of the harddrive. After that is in place we nettboot again and use Autoyast to install SuSE 9.0 on the remainder of the drive. The Win XP partition is NTFS which SuSE has no problem in reading. NTFS writing is not working on 2.4.x kernels as far as I know. We then also have a 5 Gb FAT32 partition that both OS'es kan use and this is good for data that is interesting to have accessible fro both OS'es.
