[opensuse-artwork] Pixel Pool concepts
I just joined the list. I saw the call for submissions for Pixel Pool and I've been playing with a KDE 3 theme for openSUSE. I'm not 100% sure which direction to go in. If people like the theme, and it is cemented a bit I can attempt to then create a KDE 4 theme and perhaps a Gnome theme to match. http://en.opensuse.org/Artwork:Pixel_Pool/11.1 In a little bit I'm going to upload a new picture with a more plain "standard background" color. I was experimenting with an off-white that I'm not sure I like. Feedback would be appreciated! -- T. J. Brumfield "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move." --Douglas Adams "Nihilism makes me smile." --Christopher Quick -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+help@opensuse.org

Most likely, KDE3 be dropped with openSUSE 11.1 or 11.2. So do not spend too much effort in it and concentrate on KDE4. :-) Greets, Andreas -- Skype: andreas.demmer ICQ: 103 924 771 http://www.andreas-demmer.de
I'm sure this is more a discussion for another list, but isn't
openSUSE 11.1 shipping before 4.2, which means many features that
people are still looking for (folderview as a fullscreen containment
with a wallpaper, panel hiding, etc) will still be missing? I would
hope that KDE 3.5 isn't completely dropped before KDE 4 provides
common desktop features that people come to expect. Perhaps by 11.2,
but hopefully not before then. That being said, I eventually plan on
doing a KDE 4 and Gnome theme to largely mirror the KDE 3 theme, but I
must first cement a direction for that.

Cool!
I'm not sure on how long KDE 3 will be in openSUSE, but it's days are
numbered, so creating a KDE 4 version is smart anyway.
I do personally like the theme you created, I don't know how I would
like it for day-to-day work. But that's just my opinion.
Keep up all the awesome work, I'd love to see more of this theme.

Thanks! I somewhat agree that I'm not sure I'd use it everyday in its current incarnation. The first picture I posted (concept.png) doesn't necessarily match the openSUSE colors used on the wiki, the installer, etc. Yet the pallet isn't as bright and jarring. Personally I prefer the first one, but I've been trying to create something that matches the branding of openSUSE better that is at the same time livable. Of the concepts, do people prefer the first one, or one of the latter two? They represent very different directions to go in. As far as minor details I've been waffling a bit with having the highlighted/selected text as gold on green. I like gold as a highlight color. In the concepts you can see me using gold as a highlight, and in other places just using plain white. What do you guys think about the use of a little spot gold for highlight? Lastly, what do you guys think about the off-white selected background color? Do you prefer just a plain white? Thanks for your feedback and input! -- T. J. I personally would like more options in the themes. The installed theme is great "branding" but I have most of mine in muted grey titles and toolbars "darklooks" with brown\blue "GION" icons which I wish where brown and SUSE green. and a picture of the Pleiades star cluster for wallpaper.
