As a start, I've put together the following http://www.sysrich.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Screenshot-at-2011-12-05...
Folks can download the svg from http://www.sysrich.co.uk/banner.svg
I know openSUSE is a (r) when it's the geeko logo, but I cant find any upto date documentation as to whether or not TM is still correct for when the text is being used on its own
TM is not allowed anymore.
I will sent you updated images PM.
Comments/feedback/suggestions/changes all welcome :)

A short introduction to the 'problem': https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=733094
GDM (the gnome login manager) allows for branding with a log on top of the 'login window'. As you can see in the bug referenced above, our 'competition' Fedora does this nicely.
We don't :P (not not nicely, but not at all)
So, we were wondering if we could have some 'artwork' resources coming up with some nice branding for our GDM as well?
We did try branding using /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/distributor.svg, but this looks completely out of place
A feeling would be that having a 'banner style' branding instead of a square blob might greatly improve the look and feel of this.
Obviously, you'll want to test how this looks on your machines, so you'd have to modify (as root) the file /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/openSUSE-branding.gschema.override and change the parts [org.gnome.login-screen] ## Logo in the gdm login dialog #logo='/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/distributor.svg'
to something like [org.gnome.login-screen] ## Logo in the gdm login dialog logo='/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/mysupernicegdmbranding.svg'
After which, you'll have to execute (stil as root) /usr/bin/glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas to make sure the schema is properly read and applied.
Should you have any further questions, please let me know. I'll gladly help and answer to the best of my knowledge.
Best regards, Dominique / DimStar
