I'd really be thankful for a hand, short answers, pointers, anything which would basically help me create the atmosphere of activity around the project via the news, and let potential new users and existing ones know the project is not stagnating.

That actually sounds really cool to talk about it. Although, our team has not decided on a definitive wallpaper for the next version. We are currently discussing possibilities.

At the same time, we have an artwork flickr page where people have donated wallpapers. I guess you could highlight some of them too.
