Hello, A few days ago I read on IRC, that the old Genesi kernel is being transformed into a proper rpm package. Question: could this kernel be used in the imx51 image instead of the "official" kernel? The advantage is having all hw components supported, most notably graphics, and that there is an up-to-date image to get started. The image without graphics support is a no go for most users, so currently one can only use the image from http://lizards.opensuse.org/2012/01/21/opensuse-arm-image/ and update it, which is a kind of difficult, especially since the armv7l -> armv7hl change... hm, we should not build appliances in openSUSE:Factory:ARM which are using external repositories.
What we can do is to create another project and build the image there. This is exactly what I did. Please check out openSUSE:Factory:ARM:EFIKAMX.
I didn't get around to verify that the image actually works, so I didn't announce it anywhere yet.
Just tested. This is what I see on the serial console: ## Booting kernel from Legacy Image at 90007fc0 ... Image Name: Linux-3.4.4-2-imx51 Image Type: ARM Linux Kernel Image (uncompressed) Data Size: 3211536 Bytes = 3.1 MB Load Address: 90008000 Entry Point: 90008000 Verifying Checksum ... OK ## Loading init Ramdisk from Legacy Image at 92000000 ... Image Name: Initrd Image Type: ARM Linux RAMDisk Image (uncompressed) Data Size: 21575069 Bytes = 20.6 MB Load Address: 00000000 Entry Point: 00000000 Verifying Checksum ... OK Loading Kernel Image ... OK OK Starting kernel ... So, it seems to use the regular openSUSE kernel instead of the ancient, but working Genesi kernel... I'll check, if the regular imx51 image is any better (I mean, at least something on the serial console), but I guess, that has now the same kernel...
