RE: [suse-amd64] Motherboard & SuSE 9.1

When I built my system a few weeks ago, I started with a Chaintech ZNF3-250 board. I had non-stop problems - system hangs, malfunctioning peripherals etc. I took it back and in its place bought a Gigabyte GA-K8VNXP. I have had no problems whatsoever. To me, it's important that a manufacturer releases frequent BIOS updates to correct problems and respond to consumer issues. Gigabyte is on release 6 for this board, whereas Chaintech has released no updates for theirs, as far as I know. Just my experience - YMMV. <mc> -----Original Message----- From: Laurent GUERBY [mailto:laurent@guerby.net] Sent: Friday, June 25, 2004 7:28 PM To: suse-amd64@suse.com Subject: [suse-amd64] Motherboard & SuSE 9.1 Hi, I'm looking for a fully supported by SuSE 9.1 Athlon 64 (socket 754) motherboard, my latest http://hardwaredb.suse.de/ search provided only three "unknown status" results, the database is likely out of date. Thanks for any suggestion and/or experience report. I'd like to avoid binary only drivers (no tainted kernel thanks :) and if possible gigabit internet. I had a problem with C'n'Q with the F7 bios for the Gigabyte K8VT800 Pro. But C'n'Q works well with the F6 bios. I reported this problem to Gigabyte in Germany and they were very uninterested on this problem. Then I contacted Gigabyte support in Taiwan directly and they send me to different versions of a new unreleased F8 bios version. They asked me to test both and report them, what happens. And in fact, one of the both versions worked well with C'n'Q, the other one didn't. Now, the Gigabyte Support in Taiwan will inform the developers about this result and a new bios version will be released soon (and I have the unofficial F8a bios version running here). This is a really good support, isn't it? Moritz -- +++ Jetzt WLAN-Router fr alle DSL-Einsteiger und Wechsler +++ GMX DSL-Powertarife zudem 3 Monate gratis* http://www.gmx.net/dsl
