SuSE 9.1. system doesn't boot after kernel update

Hello list, I have an Asus K8V SE Delux with AMD Athlon 64, one S-ATA harddisk and an Adaptec 29160 wich is only connected to an DLT streamer. The system works fine until I have updated the kernel to kernel-default-2.6.5-7.75 via YAST Online-Update. After this update the system hangs during boot with "ReiserFS: hda2: checking transactions log (hda2)" as the last message. There the system stands forever. Booting with "Failsafe" doesn't works either, the system than hangs while initializing the PCI bus. I have then reinstalled the system without the adaptec and installed the kernel-update. Without the adaptec, the systems boots without any problems thereafter. Is this a known bug? Matrox g550 support

When debuging problems with my NVIDIA graphics card, I have decided to test also Matrox G550 (dual head) card in my Opteron machine (running Suse 9.1 64bit). I'm able to run Xserver, but without GLX support - libdri.a has unresolved symbol __glXActiveScreens and I don't see libglx or libGLcore other then comming from nvidia drivers. Is GLX supported for Matrox G550? Did I missed some package I should install? Thanks Mirek Ruda

NVidia nForce3 LAN question

I just installed SuSe 9.1 with the 2.6.5 kernel on a AMD64 machine with NVidia's NForce 3 chipset. The onboard lan does not seem to be recognized and it does not work. I read that the forcedeth module is already included in the 2.6.x kernels so what do I do to get it to work? Hardware : Tyan S2885 Motherboard [onboard Sata disabled] Dual AMD Opertron Processors, 4 GB Memory. 3Ware 9000 Sata Raid Card [6 disks in Raid 10, 1 hot standby, 1 individual scratch disk] Bog Standard Floppy/DVD/Graphics - nothing special here. Problem : Suse 9.1 - Won't allow access to floppy drive [bad block device] - 3Ware doesn't have the 3w-xxxx modules. Suse 9.0 - Allows access to floppy drive [32 bit only] - 3Ware modules available from 3ware. megaraid and write-performance

Hi, All, i have performance difficulties with a dual-opteron system : there is a scsi - megaraid controller with 4 harddrives configured as a raid 10. our database writes huge temp-files (up to 4GB). the feeling was - it`s slow. So i compared it with a similar 32-bit system: the 64-bit needed twice (!) the time to copy a 4GB -asciifile than the 32-bit system. i changed the raid-parameters (writeback to write through and some more) - no effect i changed the modules megaraid to megaraid2 - no effect what can i do to get it faster?? Problem installing perl DBD::mysql for mtop

Hello, I am trying to get the MySQL performance monitoring tool "mtop" running on my dual Opteron system under SLES 8 for AMD64. Before my server load gets too high, I want to be able to start tuning performance. However I get errors when trying to install the perl DBD::mysql package. I need some help/ideas. BACKGROUND (to understand my environment) I must admit five months ago when I setup this server it was my first time with SLES (of any type). I had upgrade a number of packages beyond what was available as standard SLES8 for AMD64 packages, including: - MySQL 4.0.18 - Apache 2.0.xx - Jakarta Tomcat 5.0.19 - Postfix 2.0.14 (my HOWTO for cyrus-imap, mysql and amavis-new asked for later version than SLES8) - Mail-SpamAssassin-2.63 - PHP 4.3.3 for MyAdmin (PHP MySQL web interface) - perl-5.8.1-43.x86_64.rpm In spite of the above, all has worked very reliably and performed better than expected. So I've been happy given I has to wear multiple hats - web/Java developer for our website and system administrator :) ASIDE: The only downside has been having to be careful when applying YOU updates so that I do not wipe out packages I have compiled or installed manually. In hindsite, given my requirements for more recent Tomcat and MySQL, I should probably gone with SuSE Pro 9.0 for AMD64. Given the above hacks I have compromised my ability to receive SLES 8 support, so that was probably a waste of money. Opinions? CURRENT PROBLEM DETAILS: As I wrote above, when I try and install the DBD:mysql package it fails. Googling has not found the exact error messages, but similar messages were attributed to having 32-bit perl and a 64-bit MySQL client. However when I look at the perl version it says it is compiled for 64-bit. So I am wondering if I am pointing to the wrong MySQL libraries, but not sure what I am looking for now. I have included the output from "uname -a" and "perl -v" as well as the error messages I get when I try and install DBD::mysql. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Activating Wacom tablet support kills X server in SuSE 9.1

Using the same tablet (and even the same XF86Config file) with 9.1 causes the X server to crash. There is no core or particularly useful output. libEMF and EMF/WMF on 64-bit platforms

Hi folks! First of all I should say that I really like SuSE 9.1! Are any of you familiar with libEMF? Basically, I need to write an EMF (or WMF) from Linux. Ideally, I could convert a source file--any of PS, PDF, SVG or Gnu metafile formats would work--into an EMF or WMF. Looking around the Web, the open-source solution seems to be a program called pstoedit, which can utilize a library called libEMF to "tell" pstoedit how to write EMFs. Unfortunately, libEMF won't build on 64-bit SuSE 9.1, giving me an error about needing to define a context for my CPU. ../include/wine/winnt.h:49:3: #error Unknown CPU architecture! ../include/wine/winnt.h:1049:2: #error You need to define a CONTEXT for your CPU Unfortunately, that means nothing to me! Can someone explain? What might I do to get libEMF to build? There is no libEMF binary for x86_64. I tried installing the i586 libEMF binary, but pstoedit didn't recognize it. Am I doing something wrong? Additionally, though there is a pstoedit binary for x86_64, it doesn't install libEMF! If there's no solution, maybe someone out there knows other way I can convert to EMFs/WMFs from 64-bit SuSE. If so, do tell :) As an addendum, I noted that winnt.h is part of the wine package and reinstalled the wine-devel rpm from my SuSE CD (only the i586 version was available). Then I replaced the winnt.h provided by libEMF with the new one--unfortunately, I not only got the same error, but also many more :( I would be greatly appreciative for any help anyone could provide.
