I think we are not changing one network for another. We are adding a new channel for openSUSE users. Some friends and me are considering close our FB accounts, so, I guess it isn't a bad idea to be prepared for the coming of those users ;-) Francisco.

could you expand on what is better on google+ than on FB? I discovered FB last year hen my son went to Australia (from France) and all the people I know are on FB. I openned a google+ account (no need for invitation) but find it very restricted (for example, no groups!), may be I missed most things? thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+help@opensuse.org

Well, it´s trendy :) No seriously, it´s just an advanced version of Twitter. You have quite the same actions you can do like post something in a timeline, but it´s more comprehensive. You can post photos and you´re allowed to write more then 140 characters. Beside this, you can create a more comprehensive profile then Twitter allows. And finaly, it´s from Google. And the last two social networks tryings by Google weren´t that well. *And* Google+ isn´t full of spamming and advertisment like Facebook. And it´s exclusive. You need inventions for that. People often want things they haven´t got. If you are on Facebook, you actually don´t need G+. But it´s fun, and I like the circles-concept. hope this helps, -- -o) Kim Leyendecker /\\ openSUSE Ambassador, openSUSE Wiki Team DE _\_v http://www.opensuse.org - Linux for open minds -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+help@opensuse.org

IMHO, I was needing a better control over the contents I share. For example, I'm a computer science teacher and many many students are adding me on FB. My friends also are on FB. So, if I wanted to share a message/content only for my students, how can I do that on FB without annoying my friends? On the other way is quite worst: if I want to share something personal with my friends without be aware my students! Just that, control over my contents. Privacy.

That's true, all of them are making money with our information. A *big* difference is this: On FB all your information (thoughts, pictures, videos...) belongs to FB and they will store it on their servers indefinitely even if you close your account. Since you've created a FB account you are giving them those rights over your data. On g+ doesn't exist such a clause so your data is always yours and if you want it you can delete all your history with one click.

Not the same, statement 14 "Termination" of FB Terms of Use says: if you close your account, statements 2.2 (and others) still apply. Statement 2.2 says if you delete content it will be backed up indefinitely. If you cannot control it then it is not yours. But remember, that's only my opinion and I think they are not migrating users from FB to G+. So don't be afraid. For us (openSUSE users/ambassadors) is just another channel to spread the word. On the other hand, I never liked FB and never had an account on it, G+ for me is better and as it's been said it is a twitter with more stuff on it and I love Twitter... Circles is something great I think, and let you make a nice and smooth separation of the people that have access in my personal data. it's very simple, indeed. create a group and subscribe your students to the group, not your personal profile... and is it possible to google+? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.youtube.com/user/jdddodinorg http://jdd.blip.tv/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ambassadors+help@opensuse.org

Groups? no. But you can create circles. Of course, I've created a list named Students, but if I want to publish something in my wall that only my students can see, how can I do that? When you publish something on your status the only options to share are: Everybody, Friends of my friends, Only my friends and customize. Customize actually doesn't offers me my lists (Real Friends, Students, Coworkers, etc).
and is it possible to google+?
On g+ just select what you want to publish and then select which Circles (lists) can view it. Quite simple.

If you would like to add yourself into this List, just click on the Bottom "Add members or edit" and use the Password: opensuseusers. Then add your Profiles URL: e.g. https://plus.google.com/113047759144486797915 and click on "Save List".
