Namasté Ravindra.
kaise samachar?
I was born in the Indian Ocean and has some plans to visit this part of the hemisphere in the forthcoming years.
I had Pondicherry, Madagascar, for starters. I will monitor what you are attempting to do and see how my contacts can help as well.
I have already started to cruise Europe and discovered that people need hardware as well. I am in Italy right now and many people that I meet have no clue of what is openSUSE/Linux/FOSS etc.
Which comforts me of my visit to Spain last year and I saw a person with a Novell T-Shirt. I said, hurray, one "disciple". I was wrong, the guy was flattered to be addressed but Novell in Spain is a coffee make :-) I have a photo of me sitting down on a small wall distressed.
I guess that many of us work for corporates that sort of "throw" old hardware away. I wonder if we could start a hardware bank to be able to give hardware with openSUSE preinstalled. You might use some right?
Best wishes

we already do so in Toulouse, but hardware is difficult to move from a country to an other.

Hi All
I am Manu from India, welcome Ravindra. Lets start making it big by saying it we will make it big :-). Thanks a lot for getting a lot of users in India. We all are trying hard to get more and more openSUSE users , thats what we are for.
I would like to share with you your ideas. Lets meet sometime at #opensuse-in, #opensuse-marketing sometime so that we can discuss and collaborate further on our ideas which have been bursting through our little heads ;-)
But yes lets meet sometime and lets discuss, maybe you can help me with problems which I have. I will also request you to join (if you have not already)and discuss your ideas there too
http://groups.google.com/group/opensuse-india
Also are you attending foss.in, if yes that would be great :)

Thanks for your interest. However, I am more keen to know what kind of support you lacked. Did you try asking in #opensuse-in or the http://groups.google.com/group/opensuse-india group ? We will try to get that fixed. If you have contacted anyone like shayon, manu, cyberorg, kknundy, me and others in IRC, we could've helped you.
We have done some sessions in FOSS.in every year for the last 4-5 years I know of. Last time, the participation was less but still there was a stall manned by Cyberorg and some Novell folks.
We have also been sending DVDs to various places across India (I know I still need to send to Manu)

99% of the times, I am the only person in that channel. To be honest, I dont see a need for a meeting. Nor do I see any "wave" of contributors. On a saturday evening, I am very skeptical how many will be joining the meeting. If you have any items that you want to cover, please send it in the opensuse-india mailing list. If we have enough critical mass/traffic in the mailing list, then we can then plan about a meeting.
Also, can you explain the "lack of focus from the core" that you mentioned in your mail ? I believe you overlooked that in my mail.

Dear all,
i was so delighted to see thumbs up! with your interest and support. i would like to plan first to begin the openSUSE programs at school / college level in major cities. for this, we shall choose some few colleges first. select the right student as a campus representative. select a regional head for those major cities first,he coordinates with campus representatives regarding organizing of tech talks,seminars,hand-on labs, hacking sessions etc:- to make the students get focused on OpenSource, FOSS, OpenSUSE etc:- hence, there is huge impact of the program at the college level which reaches every student zeal towards technology. currently there are many colleges which are in need of these kind of support. if we begin, make the success then hence, part of the mission has been completed. now, drive the entries to FOSS events then start the official make over from there after.! since, the base is strong the program works after a series of events and happenings.
what do you say ???

Hi
@psankar, The same is with me too except that you keeep the channel active in the morning and I do that in the evening.
Ravindra, I was having my doubts about saturday night too. However do drop today at evening #opensuse-in. Maybe we can discuss ideas there itself.
Hi
@psankar, the line "lack of support from core" means that there is less no.of core teams(ambassadors/contributors) from the major cities.
with regards, Ravindra.
