Many people fetch from whatever accounts to a local host using 'fetchmail', pass
though a very customized and well tuned 'spamassassin, then either use procmail
to filter and tag and store in the ~/MyMail/ tree where a 'dovecot' server can
make then available as IMAP MUA, or just go to 'dovecot' directly and use its
'sieve' tools.

Considering how cheap storage is and that this can be done with something akin
to a Rasberry Pi (or in my case, a old XP grade machine that has been
discarded), this is really a no-brainer and gives an incredible amount of
flexibility in mail handling.
