If you have it already: (I have two copies)
/usr/local/share/appdata/vmware-player.appdata.xml
/usr/share/appdata/vmware-player.appdata.xml

I think you can safely ignore it. It seldom changes.

cer@Telcontar:~> l /usr/local/share/appdata/vmware-player.appdata.xml
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 44 Jun 7 22:32
/usr/local/share/appdata/vmware-player.appdata.xml ->
/usr/share/appdata/vmware-player.appdata.xml

(FTR: I've abandoned all use of Player. I still run Vmware, but
the first time that starts giving me problems I'm abandoning that
as well). VirtualBox is THAT good these days.

VMplayer is not installed from rpm, so that conflict doesn't come from vmplayer
itself.
