Re: [opensuse] Can't mount USB drive
* Lance Drager <ldrager@xxxxxxxxxxxx> [06-01-17 18:25]:

I'm trying to connect a usb docking station with a drive in ti to a laptop
with opensuse 13.1 (doing a backup before upgrading).

The docking station works under Windows 10. On opensuse, It shows up as a
usb device, but does not get assigned a /dev entry (like /dev/sdb).

Does anyone know how to persuade the system to give it a device entry so I
can mount it??

Here's what dmesg says:

[ 684.182097] usb 4-4: new SuperSpeed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
[ 684.193830] usb 4-4: New USB device found, idVendor=174c, idProduct=55aa
[ 684.193833] usb 4-4: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3,
[ 684.193834] usb 4-4: Product: ASMT1153e
[ 684.193835] usb 4-4: Manufacturer: asmedia
[ 684.193836] usb 4-4: SerialNumber: 123456789BFC
[ 684.309636] usbcore: registered new interface driver usb-storage

unplug the docking station
unplug the drive from the docking station

plug in the docking station
attach the usb drive to the docking station and watch dmesg for the device

look for the usb drive
fdisk -l <dev from above>

look thru all the drives for the added drive
fdisk -l | grep sd
