Second that. Had the same problem after an apparently failed SFTP
transfer. But there was no error message. The copy seemed valid. If I
hadn't packed the files, only single files probably were affected.

To avoid the problem you have to compress the files individually, so
that an error in one doesn't affect the rest (first compress, then tar).
Or use a compressor that includes error recovery capabilities, such as rar.
