Yes, but you also haven't been paying attention.
There have, as was mentioned, been upstream changes to address the issue.
There was also a corresponding 'bug' where systemd kept mounting a manually
mounted drive :)

As Carlos also mentioned, this has been addressed upstream.
I think that the newly released systemd version of the mount command, as I
suggested earlier, dynamically creating a unit, indicates the changes systemd is
making in this area.

As he says, swapping USB keys or other removable media without following the
mount/umount protocols can lead to confusion.
