Vlc produces a long list of what codecs it doesn't have and installing

Some DVDs don't seem to want to be ripped (apart).
I've tried copying the ISO and loop mounting that and its back to the
beginning of this cycle of futility.

No, that doesn't work. You have to use a tool, like HandBrake. Again,
from packman.
