how to check and fix if it is a permissions problem?
You tried alsamixer?

- thank you Patrick : yes just tried alsamixer & increased Master to 100 [ i only have small screen speaker ]

........

next i tried to re-configure Sound with yast : still no sound.

How may i check that permissions are OK as have error message:

"GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices. Some sound system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. It may also be a permissions problem."

sound worked OK until latest t'weed zypper dup
..........

thanks

Yast sees Intel Sound Card OK :

NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller

& , Yast plays Sound-Test , somewhat quietly, but audible

but, still, XFCE Sound not yet working

...........
