[opensuse] Networking problem, revisited
Recently I was searching for a resolution to a networking problem that had been giving me fits for quite a while. In essence, the networking had to be reset at seemingly random intervals. The system would stop seeing the NIC. I first thought maybe it was a USB issue, so I installed a pci-e card NIC and the problem persisted. There was nothing in any of the logs to indicate what was causing the problem and it was getting on my last nerve.

I was using the if-up scripts, as network manager isn't enabled here.
The thread on wicked this past week had me asking, What if ..., so I installed wicked and enabled it and, VOILA! The problem has gone away. It has been 4 days now without a glitch (that I have seen), which is longer than this box has ever run without restarting the network.

Still do not know what was causing the problem and haven't tried any manual configurations so cannot comment on how that will work.

Just FYI.

Oh, yeah: system is os 13.1, kde4 4.11.5 on a mini-itx mobo w/I5
