Certainly. Yast/zypper does a snapshot before and after an update, I
understand.

No, or not currently. Actually, XFS shares some devs and features with
btrfs.


Oh wait! When I decide that I would prefer the old version I just
use zypper (or yast) to go back to a previous version. its out
there somewhere ...

Many do a local backup of the entire etc directory ;-)
