1) Be sure(!) your swap partition size is bigger than your available RAM.

2) Try to hibernate and re-start.

Which behaviour have I to expect after executing step 2?

I will go to see again overal boot-process, login window,...or the
machine will restart from the last point I was before hitting the
hiber-button?
