I followed the directions exactly, and I now have an executable file in
/plug-ins that reads about like the one posted. But when I opened a
.png file in GIMP, and then went to save it, it only wanted to save in
.xcf format, whether I selected save or save as. I must be missing
something. What now, please?

in what directory did you place the file and what name did you give it?

After following directions, the file appears in the .gimp-2.8/plug-ins directory as save-export-clean-py. Its permissions are -rwxr-xr-x.

I deleted the original copy of the file which I had put in the plug-ins
directory under a different name, which I knew would be temporary. Now only the save-export-clean-py file is in the directory.

python 2.6.6-2pclos2011 is installed in this 32-bit system. as well as python3 3.2.1-1pclos2011. I think those are the only actual python
programs available here.
