Hmm. Might be a b-tree balance problem rather than simply a space allocation problem.

I'm not seeing anything like that with BtrFS, but then BtrFS has many kernel threads and I suspect at least one of them has to do with keeping the trees in shape.

This is 12.2 system with one gigantic BtrFS for the whole system.


I've stress tested resiserFS rather more over the years but that has always been on multi-partition systems so might not show up so easily.
