You've posted quite a lot of information, but haven't actually shown
us how and where this error message occurs! Please post the command
and its output. Please use a verbose option -v if available, and
please post any output from the system log that seems relevant

Yes, that would be better.

ellanios, what happens if you do a simply "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt" ?

If that fails, please post outout from "ls -l /dev/sda*"
and "ls -l /dev/disk/by-id".

It is probably also worth looking in the "dmesg" output to see if you
can spot anything unusual.
