Don't be surprised if things that worked in 11.2 or prior no longer work in
11.3. Some things depend on whether support exists in the video drivers. Some
other things are obsolete or discarded. Some things can only be manipulated
using xrandr or X utilities that use xrandr.

I guess a working xorg.conf file should work in 11.3 as well unless it uses a
very different xorg system.
Does it?

Removing the option for display setup (system widely, according to admin's
liking) is a big step backward, I think.
But we are getting used to these backward steps (KDE4 eg).
