PAE hasn't sudenly come out but has been there for quite some time, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension for an explanation.
In short, PAE is a means to address more than 4GB of memory on 32 bit
machines. That also includes machines with only 4GB but part of it remapped
to Addresses beyond 4GB because of the PCI address space. Those machines
need the PAE kernel in order to make use of all memory. BTW, X86-64 kernels
have that feature enbled all the time so there is no need for a special
version.

PS Could you both *please* seriously cut down the amount of mail you're
