have a month old 11.1 with the latest upgrades (all except the wpa wireless
update) . have been using nfs for file transfers and sync with the laptop
which has been running 11.1 for 4 months, has all the latest ugrades.
all was well until the past couple of days, suddenly i could not get nfs to
run. having gone to nfs-server and nfs-client config and firewall config in
yast2 numerous times on both machines, i decided to try the command line.
voila, type "exportfs -ra" after visually checking the /etc/exports and
related host-allows and deny's, all of which were proper btw, and all is
well!!!

it seems that the yast2 nfs-server setup has found a way to exit without
actually starting /restarting the nfs server. The weirdness is that this
happened after the system worked properly for the first 3-1/2 of the 4 weeks
the system has been up, so i did not look into rpcbind issues etc as googling
suggests.

is this a new twist in one of the late kernel upgrades?

d.
