Has anyone experienced their wireless card freezing while
almost doing nothing and during other usage periods?

Freezing while doing nothing can sometimes be the Dell bios shutting
down the card when its not being used. (Of course not being used is
fairly rare with linux).
Wireless can freeze for a variety of reasons. One of the hallmarks of a
some wireless cracking tools (airsnort and Aircrack-ng, etc) is to
force disconnects and watch the reconnection process to try to sniff
wep/wpa keys.

Someone else posted this (or a similar problem) just days ago on a
wired nic, so it may be there is some odd configuration problem.

There are 2 drivers available for that chipset.....which driver are you using? Second, there are 2 cards available from Dell with that chipset. One is a Dell card, which isn't any good, IMHO, and the other is a real Intel card.

Thank you All ...

I turned off wireless in my BIOS because apparently the OS takes care
of turning it on for me. I found messages in my messages file telling
me turn it off. It is seemingly working. Will know soon ...

I am interested in the "other" driver the controls the wireless card,
though.

In the meantime, here is the card that is being used:
