No.......doesn't work. Under perferences and a right click, NO menu comes up.

Well, it does Fred or at least it should :-) .

Which version of FF are you using?

BTW, whatever you can access via about:config is actually what is in the file prefs.js inside the ./mozilla directory so you can edit that file and add the required line(s).
