[opensuse] OS 10.2 - Problem with Fonts in Main Menu

Greetings everyone,

I'm hoping that someone else has come across this problem and has found a fix...

For whatever reason, the fonts in the Main Menu and the left side of the Control Center on my new install look terrible. They appear to be jagged and definitely don't look as clear and uniform like the rest of the fonts throughout the desktop. However, when I move my mouse over an item and the button forms around the object, the fonts inside the button look fine.

I have some lossless PNG screenshot examples below:

Example 1: This shows the fonts in the main menu in their default state. As you can see, they aren't very pretty. Very jagged lines on all text.

Example 2: I have moused-over the "network" section of the menu. You can now tell the difference in fonts, where example 1 above has very hard lines while the mouse-over item in example 2 is clean.

Example 3: I have moused-over the "hard drive" section of the menu. Again, you can tell a big difference between the first example and this example.

Things I have tried to resolve this issue:
a) Changed the font properties using gnome-font-properties. I have tried a large variety of fonts and sizes no to avail, including downloading and installing third party fonts. I have also adjusted the font rendering using the four default options and made manual adjustments using the "details" section as well. Nothing helps.

b) Change the X video driver. I'm using the standard radeon driver that ships with OS 10.2. I have changed this to the vesa driver to see if it was X that was causing the issue. This didn't help either.

c) Loading the Menu Bar.
I have loaded the original "Menu Bar" in the panel to see if there could be any similarities between the two. All of the fonts in the menu bar render properly.

d) Searching through configuration files.
I've gone through quite a few configuration files in the system to see if I can find where the main menu keeps its configuration information, but was unable to find where the information is stored.

Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
