[SLE] REPOST: " DBUS Daemon is not running"

Some days ago the default kernel on 10.1 was updated to
2.6.16.21-0.13 and then, over the following couple of days, other bits got updated.
Now, on every boot I get an error on the screen, when the Desktop displays, stating
that, "DBUS Daemon is not running. Starting it will provide full
funcitionality. /etc/init.d/dbus start ".
Looking in Control Centre/System/System Services shows that this daemon
*is* running (and it does not have an asterisk against the 'Yes'), and
typing '/etc/init.d/dbus start' on a command line gives the message that
dbus is already running.
Which to believe: the error message or the Control Centre? And if the
Control Centre, why the error message on boot and how to get rid of it?
Anyone, please?
Cheers.
