Actually, that's not a given.

Atheros based chips (madwifi driver) show up as ath0, ath1, etc.

If I remember correctly, on the Dell i6000 laptop I tried when shopping
for a new one, the SUSE Live DVD bought showed the wired (broadcom)
network as eth0 and the wirless (ipw2000 driver) as eth1.

My Prism54 based card (prism54 driver) in my firewall at home also shows
up as eth1

The broadcom (ndiswrapper driver) in my notebook shows up as wlan0
