What exactly is the error you get, and what are you trying to do?

You shouldn't need to manually tell the kernel to load the ide-scsi driver.
Simply passing hdc=ide-scsi to the kernel at boot time (from the boot menu in
grub) or as a kernel parameter in grub's menu.lst should work.
