Art,

no you can't use the same name. What would happen if you had two different
computers in the same domain with the same name? The fact that Linux and XP
don't run at the same time doesn't prevent the problem. If you runned the two
different computers at different times, you'd still have the same problem.
Remember that by adding a computer to a domain, one is creating a machine
account on the domain. That account, like user accounts also as a password.
When one creates the Linux account it negotiates a password with the domain
controller. When Windows is added to the domain it also negotiates a new
password. Therefore, when one boots Linux again the password it tries to use is
no longer acceptable - the reverse is also true.
Does this make sense?

Yes, I am using the same computer name. I would have thought that is
what would be desired. If the computer is already a part of the domain,
it would seem that it would still be. Will try renaming though.

Art,

aren't you using the same computer name for both XP and Linux and
adding both to
the domain? If so, it can't work. If you want to have a dual-boot computer
being part of a Windows Domain, you'll have to use two different hostnames for
the Windows and Linux systems. If not, each time you add one system to the
domain, you're removing the other.
