~ Sure . . . find this handy for backups.
~ shutdown, and plug in a spare HardDisk
~ kill -9 cron PID { to find PID : ps aux | grep cron }
~ mount the target Partition in the spare HardDisk
~ use TAR like this :-

tar clf - . | ( umask 0; cd /mnt; tar xvf - )

~ edit /mnt/etc/fstab

{ remember to restart cron : /usr/sbin/cron }

[ backup of 4.8 gb system takes about 12 minutes ]
